Day 9: Sunday, August 2, 1998. Hike into East Eagle Canyon, Eagle Cap Wilderness, OR.

We parked at the trailhead and split into two groups. Holly would lead one, and Rick would lead the other. After hiking 20 minutes or so we came to the real trailhead. Apparently we had started hiking from the "vehicles with trailers" trailhead. So once we were at the real trailhead we had 7.5 miles to where we wanted to camp. It was a long 7.5 miles, all uphill. For the most part it was very gradual, but we still gained over 2000 feet in elevation. Holly, being the total stud that she is, got the first group to the campsite an hour and a half before Rick's group.

We were lucky to get into the Eagle Cap Wilderness during the peak of wildflower season.

Our campsite in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. This picture was taken from about where the deer would stand when they came down in the evening. Or were the deer really mountain lions preying on Elaine?
