Day 2: Sunday, July 26, 1998. Drive from Salt Lake City, UT to Paisley, OR.
This probably won't go down as one of the most exciting drives of the trip. Once we were west of Salt Lake City we soon entered the Salt Flats and got a hint of the lack of population we would be seeing that day. We traveled through some towns in Nevada, but once we left the interstate and headed for Paisley we had a very long stretch with "No Services". The highway department puts "No Services" signs up as a reminder that if you break down you are totally out of luck. Not too comforting considering our blow-out of the night before and the fact that we had no spare tire for the van. Fortunately, everything went smoothly and we were in the delightful small town of Paisley in time for dinner. We got there just at the end of their annual "Mosquito Festival." There we added Elaine to our group. Elaine's mother, who lives in Paisley, along with other families in the neighborhood cooked us dinner and gave us a place to stay for the night. That evening, we all took the grand walking tour of Paisley, where we met the absolute best Frisbee-catching dog. The evening ended with a stirring guitar concert by Elaine.
