Sunday, August 6, 2000 - Getting ready to Condo Climb

This was to be everybody's day to acclimatize before hitting our first fourteener.  Hollie, Teri, Gary, Tom, and I decided to get out and do some day hiking.  We headed for the lake on the south side of Quandary Peak, located just south of Breckenridge.  We didn't hike very far or very high, but that was really the point of the whole outing.  We got up into a little snow, saw some great scenery, and found some deficiencies in our trail-following skills.

After the day hike we went back to Breckenridge where by now most of the entire group had finally arrived.  We all met that evening to talk about the next day's climb.  We decided on Quandary Peak for several reasons.  First, Rick and Lynne had done the peak the previous year and knew the route.  Second, the route is as simple as it gets - straight up the ridge.  There was no chance of getting lost or losing the way.  Third, Quandary is very close to Breckenridge, ensuring us an early start.  Lastly, while Quandary is never very steep, it would still be a good challenge, probably better than say, Mt. Sherman.
